In early November, I received an email from LiveJournal Translation Coordinator Ryan Fitzpatrick seeking active translators still willing to work on this project. I replied saying that I haven't been active, but I'm willing to give it another go.

This morning, I realised that I've been upped to the Maintainer of of this community... after getting an email saying that lj_malay has been upgraded to a Permanent Account.

Ok... I don't recall asking, but I was gonna offer if sol didn't want to do it anymore. You still there sol?

Rambling aside, this is a roll call. If you still want to help translate LJ to Malay, reply here and we'll get this place organised. :-)

Can you elaborate more on what this translate thingy will involve?

Pretty straightforward. We'll be going through LJ page by page translating it to Malay. There is a control panel here which will let us input the translation directly.

You're not on the team list, so I don't know if you can see the above page. Another thing I need to do is get the translators added to the list of people with updating priviledges.

I'm thinking of assigning a person to a page. That person will update whatever he/she can and use this community to get help/suggestions on what they can't figure out on their own.

It doesn't matter if they can't figure out most of the stuff on "their" page; the whole point is that one person will be responsible for making sure that particular page gets done. Also, I don't want two people to unknowingly mess with the same page!

We'll need to keep a master list of common words that may have several translations (e.g. friend = kawan or sahabat?), as discussed here.

I'm not gonna set strict deadlines or anything. Just as long as we keep plodding on, we should get it done within a reasonable timeframe.

That's all I can think of right now.

Thanks for the explanation. Yes. I can see the control panel.

I'm not a professional translator or anything. But I can find the time and offer my help if you need more people.

I also have a friend who recently got herself a lj though she hasn't made an entry as yet. She is a professional translator though.

How many more people do you need?

I would have to say I'm better at coordinating a project than I am at translating itself. My Malay is rusty and I'll need any help I can get! :D

The more people, the faster we can get this done. If you're friend is interested, get her in! Professional translators are more than welcomed!

We'll plug around for interested people soon. I just want to see where existing members stand and establish a work process.

I think the people in-charge are still sorting out things at their end, so we won't officially kick off until I hear more from them. At the moment, I think I'll just spiff up the layout and userinfo, and do some general rallying.

Okay, then. Sign me up!

And I'll ask my friend if she's interested. I'm positive that she'll be very interested. It's just that I have to wait for a month to ask her because she's back in Malaysia for a holiday.

But I think she'll be a great help because she's written a research paper on the difficulty of translating IT/computer terms from English to Malay.

i'm still alive but i had to get my priorities right ;) (plus my malay has been eroding from the lack of use these days!)

now that the population of lj malaysians have grown tremendously, i hope you will find all the support you need to make this project successful. maybe you can try to recruit some of the guys in the malaysians community?

Yes, I'll be recruiting there as soon as I know what the head honchos at Translation expect of us. :-)

Hey, I'm interested in this also. What do I need to do to be involved?
5th-Dec-2005 02:08 pm (UTC)
Join the community. ;-)

Apart from that, everything I know is somewhere in this thread. I'd also encourage you to explore the Language Editor.

You might also wanna add this community to your friends list to keep an eye on new posts. ;-)

Still interested right?
